State Financial Aid Programs

Many states offer students — typically state residents — access to a variety of state financial aid programs.

Programs include:

• Grant programs such as California's Cal Grant programs and the Need Grant Programs in the state of Washington
• Voucher programs such as the one offered by the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education
• Fellowship programs
• Scholarships
• Tuition waiver programs
• State work-study
• Loan assumption and/or forgiveness programs for students who choose a teaching career (e.g., California's APLE Program)
• A variety of special grant and loan programs reserved for targeted populations
